Overview
The Residential HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and replacing heating and cooling systems in customers’ homes, including clean outs and system change outs.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and air handlers.
- Perform routine maintenance, seasonal tune‑ups, and clean outs, including cleaning coils, blowers, drains, and other system components.
- Perform equipment change outs and replacements, including safely removing existing systems and installing, piping, wiring, and starting up new units to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Identify and communicate repair and replacement options to homeowners, provide basic cost estimates when required, and obtain approval before performing work.
- Complete accurate service tickets, maintenance checklists, and electronic records for each job, including parts used, work performed, and system readings.
- Maintain a clean, organized service vehicle and ensure proper inventory of common parts and tools.
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable codes; handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a residential HVAC service technician or installer/service combo role preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and replace components such as capacitors, contactors, motors, and thermostats.
- Experience performing maintenance, clean outs, and change outs on residential HVAC systems.
- EPA 608 certification preferred or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
- Strong customer service and communication skills; able to explain issues and options in clear, non‑technical terms.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift and move typical HVAC components, work in attics, crawlspaces, and outdoors in varying temperatures, and perform physical tasks such as climbing, crouching, and kneeling.
